Pengaruh littersize terhadap bobot lahir, tingkat mortalitas, pertumbuhan bobot badan, kesempurnaan fisik domba garut di Ananta Farm Sukabumi

Garut sheep are a valuable local genetic resource with high potential for meeting animal protein needs. This study aimed to determine the effect of birth type (littersize) on birth weight, mortality rate, weight gain, and physical completeness of Garut lambs raised at Ananta Farm, Sukabumi. The research was conducted on 67 lambs with single, twin, and triplet birth types during August-November 2024. Data were collected through direct observation, weekly weighing, and documentation of physical profiles and lamb mortality. The experimental design used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) then analyzed using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) further tests to determine differences between birth type groups. The results showed that single-born lambs had the highest birth weight 2,8 ± 0,1 kg and body weight gain 8,448 ± 3,78 kg compared to other birth types. The highest mortality rate occurred in triplet births (21,05%), primarily due to nutritional competition and low maternal care. All lambs were born with complete physical features. The concluded that single births result in the best growth performance and survival of Garut lambs. The research suggestion was management strategies such as milk replacer supplementation, foster mothers, and separation of pregnant ewes from colony pens before delivery is recommended.
