Abstract

Aim of this study is to review the association between prolactin, broodiness, and egg production in chickens based on research reports. This review protocol focuses on studies that explore the association between prolactin, broodiness, and egg production in chickens. Study criteria on prolactin, broodiness, and egg production in chickens from relevant data sources with a range of 2015-2025. The keywords used were prolactin, broodiness, egg production, and chicken. The search results found that the PRL gene is one of the genes that control the secretion of the PRL hormone in poultry, including chickens. Selection using the PRL gene marker makes possible the selection of chickens based on their brooding traits and egg production, especially in local chickens. PRL is correlated with egg production, laying age threshold, and body weight. The study concluded that genetic selection of local chickens based on the PRL gene can be used as a marker in selecting chickens based on brooding traits and egg production rates.
