Abstrak

The development of sugarcane production has fluctuated from 2018 to 2022. The preparation of seeds, seed quality, and the varieties used are some of the reasons for the low production of domestic sugar. The planting material used requires 7 months to be ready for planting as it greatly affects the seedling stage. In adjusting the selection of sugarcane varieties, priority can be given to high cane weight and high yield. The selection of seeds must consider the quality they possess, such as the ability to adapt to new environments, grow well, be uniform, and be healthy without pest and disease infestations.
The source of the seedlings also affects their growth capability. The shoot seedlings come from selected cane stalks that are healthy and not mixed with other varieties at the top of the cane stalk. The research was conducted in Jember using quantitative descriptive testing, and the results showed that seedling germination and growth are dominated by the Cenning variety, which falls into the category of early to mid-maturing with moderate germination
