Pengaruh Penambahan Pupuk Nitrogen Dan Aplikasi Mulsa Jerami Pada Produksi Setek Ubi Jalar (Ipomoea Batatas) Varietas Beta-2

Sweet potato is a food crop with strong potential to serve as a substitute for rice, offering greater benefits and easier cultivation requirements. However, one of the major challenges in sweet potato cultivation is the limited availability of high-quality vine cuttings in sufficient quantities. Therefore, innovation in sweet potato seed production is necessary. This study aimed to examine the effects of urea fertilizer and rice straw mulch on the growth and vine cutting production of sweet potato. The research was conducted from June to August 2024 in Sumber Ketimpa Hamlet, Tegal Besar Village, Kaliwates Subdistrict, Jember Regency, using a factorial randomized block design (RBD) with two factors: urea and rice straw mulch. Each factor was tested at three levels—urea (50 kg/ha, 75 kg/ha, 100 kg/ha) and straw mulch (0, 2 tons/ha, 3 tons/ha)—with three replications. Observational data were analyzed using the 5% DMRT (Duncan’s Multiple Range Test) when significant differences were found. The results indicated that both urea fertilizer and straw mulch had a significant effect on the production of sweet potato vine cuttings. The P2M2 treatment (urea 75 kg/ha and mulch 2 tons/ha) was not significantly different from P1M2 and P2M1, yielding 88, 86, and 84 cuttings, respectively. However, P2M2 was significantly different from P2M3, P1M3, P3M2, P3M1, and P1M1. The application of straw mulch significantly influenced cutting production, functioning as a soil moisture retainer and thus helping to maintain consistent water supply to the plants. Moreover, the interaction between straw mulch and nitrogen fertilizer significantly affected the number of nodes per plant. P2M2 did not differ significantly from P1M3, but showed highly significant differences when compared to P3M1, P2M3, and P1M1.
